The museum has two floors and houses a permanent exhibition comprising of wall boards and display cabinets detailing the development of the village.

The Mersea Island Museum is an independent museum established in 1976 and occupying purpose-built premises in the centre of West Mersea, just to the east of the Parish Church. Collections feature items and information on of Local history, social history, natural history and geology, local photographs, marine, engineering and costume. Adults 50p, children & concessions 25p
Come and witness the three lives of the bunker starting with its role as an RAF ROTOR Station, then a brief period as a civil defence centre through to its most recent life as a Regional Government HQ. Designed for up to 600 military and civilian personnel, possibly even the Prime Minister, their collective task being to organise the survival of the population in the awful aftermath of a nuclear war. We are currently the biggest and deepest cold war bunker open to the public in southeast England!
