Queens Head
Looking after you locally
The Queen’s Head is a superb four star Country Inn enjoying picturesque surroundings within the quiet village of Finghall, just off the A684 east of Leyburn. The Queens Head offers bed and breakfast with distinctly modern bedrooms, contemporary dining in our a la carte restaurant and a public bar. The Queen's Head is owned and run by Sharon and Peter Farhall, who arrived in 2001 and who have over 25 years' experience in the trade. This cosy pub is comfortable and welcoming, and retains much of its historic charm and character. From the rear of the premises visitors can see Wyvill Hall reputedly the home of Toad of Toad Hall. This country inn dates from the 1700's and has a wealth of old oak beams and you can be assured of a warm welcome - not only from the real fire in the grate! Finghall is listed in the doomsday book. Its name is of Saxon origin and means "Nook or corner of the Fin's People". The village has been described by Arthur Mee, in his book "Kings of England: North Yorkshire" as a "fragrant garden on a hill". The village is located in one of Yorkshires prettiest dales - Mike Harding once said of it - "Wensleydale is a big, fat, friendly dale, full of green fields, waterfalls, brass bands and cows". The spacious dining room at the Queen's Head overlooks "Wild Wood" said to have inspired the author Kenneth Grahame to write the "Wind in the Willows", he was also known to wander along the beck where Ratty lived. For great food, character and real sense of history, all can be experienced with a visit to the Queen's Head.
